Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree from accredited college or university
- Holds or is eligible for a New Jersey Certificate with the appropriate endorsement
Reports To: The Director of Special Services
Supervises: Students
Job Goal: To provide learning services to students as mandated by state law and code.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Perform all necessary duties as required by the administrative code, state, federal laws and Board policy as a member of the Child Study Team.
- Serve as a member of a Child Study Team to evaluate, identify and classify students according to New Jersey Rules and Regulations.
- Assist in planning the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) for students in need of special services.
- Confer with teachers to implement goals and objectives of the IEP with respect to the use of teaching methods and materials.
- Develop instructional goals and objectives in terms of student’s strengths and weaknesses.
- Maintain appropriate records and submit required reports.
- Ensure confidentiality of referred and classified students pertinent information and records.
- Observe referred or classified students during evaluation and/or in the classroom setting.
- Participate during interpretative conferences with parents, students and staff members involved with student’s program.
- Meet with special education teachers to implement training and instruction in the academic areas.
- Monitor progress of classified students as assigned.
- Assist and advise with in-service planning or evaluation when necessary.
- Maintain an awareness of current trends, changes and development in his/her field of experience.
- Maintain a cordial and workable relationship with professional and non-professional staff as well as students, parents and community members.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the administrative staff in accordance with the contractual agreement or policies of the Board of Education.
- Fulfill all of the responsibilities of case management as delineated in N.J.A.C. 6:28 for assigned case load.
- Functions as a member of the Intervention & Referral Services (I&RS) Team if assigned.
